If the story and the cast is important, the music, soundtracks or even singles for a short film or for an indie feature film is a tiring uphill task. One is constantly searching through all the royalty free music sources and then they try to listen and look out for that one master piece that hits on all the right notes. Even I made a comprehensive list of some 30 Plus great sources of royalty free music websites for independent filmmakers all around the world. You can read the list here.
Anyhow, there’s another great, inspiring source for that perfect music, sound, soundtrack for your next or your current project and although I’ve covered about it before, this is a bit of an extensive explanation.
SoundCloud as we all know is house to millions of artists all round who upload their musical talent online on the service. Yes, it’s amazing to scout all the amazing talented signed and unsigned artists, but as we all know, you can even find new artists who record and upload their original tracks there. This is amazing since you can simply go ahead and negotiate with the original owner of the art and convince him/her to use their work in your project, of-course with due credits. It sounds amazing and interesting, right? Take for example the acclaimed indie film Tangerine. Sean Baker, the creator of Tangerine found the insane song for his movie on SoundCloud. That crazy Trap Music song was from DJ Lightup. There are thousands of original artists on SoundCloud and it’s not a difficult task to find someone who’d appreciate your appreciation for their work.
Now, don’t think SoundCloud is the only source for such originality. You can use other alternatives too. You’ll find millions of users on YouTube who upload their original songs, music and creations on the world’s biggest video streaming service. So, what are you waiting for, go check out SoundCloud and YouTube and look out for original artists, new artists or you can even use these amazing alternatives too.
