There are thousands of Micro USB cables all around the world, cheap and inexpensive to explicitly expensive ones, but you just can’t find the perfect replacement for the OEM cable provided with your gadgets. The OEM’s have their own issues as manufacturers shorten the length to cut the prices. They can be a bit too much for the usability and durability. I am sure we all have a few of these lying around our house. I myself have a few, but it’s no treasure to brag about since most of them are either broken or they suffer from loose connection at their tips, which is frustrating.
In August 2015, Winnergear a group of young entrepreneurs (manufacturing unique and usable accessories like waterproof phone covers and car mount since 2012) ran a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo and raised $182,825 USD to make the world’s first ever Reversible Micro USB cable titled MicFlip. One can easily imagine the need and popularity of such an accessory with the love, support and funds the Winnergear team collected for their product. The best part, they actually delivered the perfect product to the supporters and the backers that actually didn’t feel cheap at all.
The biggest problem we all have from the general Micro USB cables is the way they get tangled, but the MicFlip features a nylon braided tangle free cord with aluminium cover, gold plated connector and rubber strain relief for extra durability. The Gold plate further enhances the protection as it is offers Corrosion Resistance. The highlight however is the Micro USB port that is reversible. It’s the smaller end of the cord that you’ll end up jacking into your smartphone or your tablet’s charging, data syncing slot. The larger side remains general with no reversible side, which to be honest would have been amazing for people like me trying to fiddle around with the cords in the dark. The smaller side that make it worth every penny is similar to your Apple lighting cable (don’t try to insert the MicFlip Micro USB cable into your iPhone or your iPod, Winnergear has a separate product for all you Apple fans), but good looking and stronger. MicFlip also answers another of our common problem of shorter cables. The MicFlip is 3 feet long which means there should be no problem for all those who like to use their gadgets while charging.
At $19.99 USD you’d think it is expensive, but this means no more wasting money on cheap inexpensive cables every few months, plus the MicFlip is compatible with almost every device. I tested my MicFlip Micro USB cable with my Nokia Lumia 1020, Nokia Lumia 1520, Sony Xperia Z 1 and Samsung Galaxy S4. A friend used it for his Lenovo Tablet and it worked perfectly.
